Debbie Heitzman has more than 25 years of domestic and international experience as a consultant in clinical architecture and design, medical equipment planning, clinical consulting and nursing. She is a registered nurse and midwife. She has clinical experience in operating rooms, labor and delivery units, neonatal intensive care units, and critical care. Heitzman has been a business owner, equipment planner and clinical educator since 1986.
Debbie manages and develops the equipment planning services. She is committed to a very “hands on” and comprehensive approach that looks at equipment planning from the perspective of the clinician, administrator, architect, engineer, and contractor. This approach allows the team to focus on their specialty without having to spend excessive time reading equipment data sheets and meeting with sales representatives. Debbie’s experience as a project manager provides insight in the actual cost of equipment and how to negotiate to achieve exceptional pricing. This combination of services cuts cost out of projects by providing proactive planning and creative negotiation.
Debbie has participated as a member of the educational faculty of Harvard Graduate School of Design Professional Development Program and has presented at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the UCLA annual seminar on Medical Imaging and Medical Informatics. She is a former educational faculty member of the Center for the Study of Endosurgery located at Monash University in Victoria, Australia.
Debbie has a consummate understanding of the impact of diminishing healthcare budgets and the current demands placed on facilities to maintain a high level of patient care. Her knowledge of clinical service delivery provides a user’s perspective to departmental design and medical equipment planning. She has expert knowledge in medical technology particularly in the operating room and critical care environments; she is process-oriented, communicating well at all levels and possesses solid organizational skills. Debbie is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
